Evidence Based Curriculum, Hands-On

The curriculum I use is Math in Focus, a Singapore math curriculum adopted for the American market and have hands-on materials for every age level. In yet another international study comparing educational outcomes of the world's major countries, Singapore ranks 1st, while the US gets a mediocre 28th place. Singapore’s ranking improved after the state invested heavily to rewrite their whole math curriculum. Full OECD report here.

I successfully used Math in Focus, an evidence based Singapore mathematics curriculum adapted to the American market with my students and saw how it fosters deeper understanding of the concepts.

What Makes Singapore Math Special?

It goes from concrete to pictorial to abstract which makes learning the material intuitive and easy. 

It repeats its content every year in an upward spiral getting ever more complex. The child will have seen the material before but learn it in greater detail. It has a rigor, clarity, and complexity I have not seen in other California textbooks.
